5G Americas applauds the confirmation of David Redl as Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information and Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). David Redl will head NTIA, the U.S. Department of Commerce agency responsible for managing government spectrum and advising the President on communications policy. He was nominated by President Donald J. Trump for the position in May 2017.

David Redl brings valuable experience on various telecom issues, particularly spectrum management policy. Mr. Redl served as Chief Counsel for the United States House Committee on Energy and Commerce before his nomination to lead NTIA. In his role as Committee Counsel, Mr. Redl was instrumental in negotiations for the Spectrum Act of 2012, in facilitating voluntary incentive auctions of broadcast spectrum and the repurpose of federal spectrum to commercial use. Prior to serving on House Energy & Commerce, he was the Director of Regulatory Affairs at CTIA, a well-known telecom industry trade group.

Chris Pearson, President of 5G Americas commented, “5G Americas congratulates David Redl on his new role at NTIA. His deep experience, combined with his new role of managing federal spectrum, will undoubtedly serve to progress the innovative mobile wireless industry in North America. Mr. Redl assured Senators at his confirmation hearing that he would work to ensure the U.S. leads the world on 5G. We look forward to working with him to ensure that America continues as a connected society leader in the world.”
