5G Americas elects Chile based WOM to its Board of Governors

5G Americas, the industry trade association and voice of 5G and LTE for the Americas, announced the election of WOM to its Board of Governors. As a mobile service operator from Chile, WOM will contribute to 5G Americas’ work by providing its outlook on mobile services, infrastructure and technologies in Latin America.

 

“We are very excited to welcome WOM to 5G Americas’ Board of Governors. This addition will broaden the representativeness of our organization in the Americas by including the vision of an innovative operator toward our goal of promoting the development of mobile broadband technologies in the entire region,” stated Chris Pearson, President of 5G Americas.


 

Felipe Simonsohn, Director for Regulation and Corporate Affairs at WOM, stated that “5G technology is the future of telecommunications and at WOM we wish to promote and be a part of this huge leap, which shall soon become a reality in Chile. For that reason, we are proud to be a member of 5G Americas, an organization that advances the progress and capabilities of mobile communications based on principles and values that represent us as a company and will enable high quality mobile services with initiatives that aim at bridging the digital divide in the region.”
 


José Otero, Director of 5G Americas for Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighted that the election of WOM to 5G Americas’ Board of Governors “WOM’s election to the Board will be extremely valuable as it adds the company’s experience in the Latin American telecommunications sector to continue boosting the progress of current and next generation wireless technologies throughout the Americas region.”



WOM is a mobile operator owned by British firm Novator Partners with presence in Chile. Led by CEO Chris Bannister, it started operations in the Chilean market upon the acquisition of the local subsidiary of Nextel.



The members of 5G Americas’ Board of Governors include: América Móvil, AT&T, Cable & Wireless, Cisco, CommScope, Ericsson, Intel, Kathrein, Mavenir, Nokia, Qualcomm, Samsung, Shaw Communications, Sprint, T-Mobile U.S., Inc., Telefónica and now also WOM.
